I grew up surrounded by creativity. Dad was always making, painting, building or planning something, and I spent a lot of my childhood hanging around workshops, film sets and various slightly mad projects. I remember carrying what felt like hundreds of pairs of boots up and down the stairs for Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, and sitting for hours helping Dad sew epaulettes, turning them the right way out until I had blisters on my fingers. Not your average childhood memories perhaps, but very fond ones all the same.
Although my working life took me in a different direction, I’ve always loved drawing, painting and design, and over the years I’ve dipped in and out of projects at Where Poppies Grow. More recently I somehow seem to have found myself right back in the middle of it all.
These days I look after much of the marketing, design and digital side of WPG, but like everyone here, my actual role is a bit harder to define. I might be working on the website one minute, illustrating something the next, helping with a puppet, discussing a script or generally getting roped into whatever needs doing.
Since losing Dad, finishing the projects he started and finding a way forward for Where Poppies Grow has become incredibly important to me. I’m very lucky to be doing that alongside a group of people who were not only his friends, but have become very dear friends of mine too.
